Why is service on a Board important to you?

I serve on the HSH Board so children that experience an institution such as HSH can come reach their highest potential in becoming academically strong, physically active and socially grounded.

What drew you to HSH?

Its progressive values, diverse staff and students, and mission to build well rounded students.

Mayra is a creative and performance-driven professional with 15+ years of experience in leading design and development of high-impact learning experiences that have shaped the leadership culture of global companies. She is an expert at standing up new leader, mid-level and executive development solutions at a global scale and is skilled at launching organizational development solutions such as leadership behaviors/models. Her abilities to connect learning and business opportunities led to the first innovation hackathon with alumni of the high potential program. She is a seasoned leader known for building high-performing teams, promoting and nurturing team culture, and professional growth.

Most recently Mayra was a leadership development consultant for Ford Motor Co. helping to set their executive development strategy. Prior to that Mayra worked for American Express for 11 years where she held the position of VP, Enterprise Leadership and Learning at American Express. In this role Mayra led the creation of the company’s first Leadership Academy setting the foundation of leadership development globally. She implemented leadership programs for 16,000 middle managers in partnership with Harvard Business School and high potential programs with over 100 senior leaders in partnership with Duke Corporate Education. She led the education strategy for the new leadership model and led a collaborative effort to embed across the talent lifecycle (e.g. performance management, recruiting, onboarding). She also oversaw executive coaching and the annual executive 360 assessment process for the top 100 executives. Prior to her 11 years at American Express, Mayra held roles in Executive Education at Duke Corporate Education and Columbia Business School as project director to develop leadership management programs.

Mayra is a two time American Express Chairman’s Innovation Award winner for establishing the Leadership Academy and designing the first Innovation Challenge sponsored by the CEO.
